Rt. Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, Member of Parliament (MP) for Akatsi South, has donated equipment under the National Apprenticeship Programme to 605 beneficiaries in the constituency to empower them with employable skills and promote economic independence.
The beneficiaries, made up of young artisans and apprentices undergoing training in various vocational fields such as dressmaking, hairdressing, carpentry, welding, tailoring, and auto mechanics, received the equipment at a brief presentation ceremony held at Akatsi No. 1 school today, Sunday,the 1st of March,2026.
The intervention forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen skills development and reduce unemployment among the youth, while reinforcing government’s commitment to technical and vocational education and training as a pathway to sustainable livelihoods.
Rt. Hon. Ahiafor, who is also the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, said the initiative was aimed at supporting trainees currently undergoing apprenticeship training with the necessary tools to enhance their practical learning and prepare them for self-employment upon completion of their training.
He urged the beneficiaries to remain committed to their training and make effective use of the equipment to improve their skills and future prospects.
“This support is intended to strengthen your training and prepare you for economic independence. I encourage you to remain focused, take your training seriously, and use the equipment responsibly to secure a better future for yourselves,” he said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment and pledged to continue championing programmes that create opportunities for skills development, entrepreneurship, and job creation in the constituency.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the MP and the government for the intervention, describing it as timely and motivational.
They noted that the equipment would enhance their ongoing training and position them to establish their own businesses after completing their apprenticeship.
The National Apprenticeship Programme forms part of government’s broader strategy to equip young people with employable skills, promote entrepreneurship, and reduce unemployment across the country.
The presentation was attended by party officials, trainers, traditional leaders, beneficiaries, and residents of Akatsi South Constituency.
