Afua Asantewaa awaits Guinness World Record confirmation

Broadcast journalist Afua Asantewaa says she is still waiting for official confirmation from Guinness World Records following her second attempt at the longest individual singing marathon.

Her latest attempt, which took place in December 2024 at Heroes’ Park, Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, saw her sing for 121 hours and 39 minutes, surpassing the current record of 105 hours held by Sunil Waghmare of India. Despite the impressive feat, Guinness has yet to verify the outcome.

Standard verification timelines on the Guinness World Records website state that most applications take between 6 to 12 weeks. However, the process can take longer depending on the complexity of the evidence submitted. Immediate verification is possible only if an official Guinness judge is present, none attended Asantewaa’s attempt.

In response to a TikTok comment, Afua wrote briefly, “We are still waiting.”

Her first singathon attempt was in December 2023, and like the second, it drew significant public support. After the 2024 attempt, she took to the social media platform X to express gratitude:

“Hello, Ghana! I just wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone of you for your amazing support during my Guinness World Records Longest Singing Marathon Individual attempt.”

Afua’s persistence continues to inspire many, even as the world awaits the final word from Guinness.
