Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has raised serious concerns over the absence of streetlights on the road leading to the Jubilee House, highlighting the potential security risks posed by this issue.

In a statement on the floor of Parliament on Friday, March 14, 2025, Afenyo-Markin emphasized the importance of proper lighting, particularly in such a critical area near the seat of government. He described the lack of streetlights as a worrying security concern for the presidency.
“Mr. Speaker, it’s not good for the security of the presidency if the entire route leading to the Office of the President is so dark. This is in the heart of the city—it is worrying,” he said.
Afenyo-Markin called on the Minister for Greater Accra to appear before Parliament and provide assurances regarding the government’s plans to address the situation. He stressed the need for adequate street lighting in the city, especially around government buildings.
“I would plead that the leader of government business programs the Minister for Greater Accra to come and assure the House of the steps she is taking to address the situation. We need sufficient streetlights in the city, particularly in the area where the seat of government is located,” he added.
