The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) will soon launch a 24-hour city-wide cleaning campaign. Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey announced the initiative as part of efforts to improve sanitation across the capital.
He made this statement during a donation ceremony on June 13. Anointed Engineering Services Ltd. gifted the AMA a Borla Macho III tricycle to support the campaign. The event took place at the AMA Head Office near Kinbu.
Corporate Support Powers Sanitation Efforts
Anointed Engineering, a local electro-mechanical firm, described the tricycle as a game changer. Managing Director Samuel Adjei Boateng explained that the machine improves waste collection, especially in areas that are hard to access.
“This isn’t just about selling generators,” Boateng said. “This tricycle lifts bins, compresses waste, and empties without manual contact. It’s ideal for modern urban sanitation.”
He praised the Mayor’s sanitation reforms and described the donation as a tribute to his vision.
Mayor Calls for More Support
Mayor Allotey thanked Anointed Engineering for their support and stressed the importance of partnerships.
“We’re grateful for this contribution,” he said. “There’s a lot of work to do. This tricycle will help the women who sweep our streets every day.”
He also mentioned the upcoming 24-hour cleaning program. The tricycle, he noted, would play a crucial role in the first phase.
“This is just the beginning. We hope to work with Anointed Engineering to produce more of these machines,” he added.
The Mayor called on other businesses to support the initiative, saying that a cleaner Accra requires collective effort.
Tricycle Brings Efficiency to Waste Collection
Ing. Solomon Noi, AMA’s Director of Waste Management, explained how the Borla Macho III will improve operations. The machine can carry up to two metric tons of waste and has a five-cubic metre volume. It also uses a hydraulic lift system to handle different bin sizes.
“This technology reduces physical contact with waste and cuts down the number of trips needed,” he said.
He added that the tricycle is especially effective in low-income, densely populated areas where access is limited. If the pilot proves successful, AMA plans to scale the model to other sub-metros.
