ABORSCO @60: Dr. Senanu Djokoto Announces Scholarship Scheme to Honour Ahiafor

Abor in the Keta Municipality witnessed a memorable gathering of dignitaries, alumni and community leaders as Abor Senior High School (ABORSCO) celebrated its 60th Anniversary under the theme, “60 Years of Impactful Journey: Providing Transformative Secondary Education through Indigenous Values and 21st Century Skills.”

The ceremony was chaired by Torgbi Tengey Dzokoto Gligui VII and brought together several high-profile personalities, including the Member of Parliament for Akatsi South and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor; the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, who represented the President; Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo; Member of Parliament for Keta, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey; Elvis Afriyie Ankrah of the Office of the President; and the Municipal Chief Executive for Keta, Wisdom Bondzie Seade, among others.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Senanu Kwesi Djokoto highlighted the school’s recent academic successes in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and acknowledged the immense contributions of ABORSCO alumni to national development. He urged students to remain disciplined, stressing that discipline remains the bedrock of academic and professional success.

In support of the anniversary celebration, Dr. Djokoto made a cash donation and announced plans to institute a scholarship award scheme in honour of Rt. Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, a distinguished alumnus of the school. The proposed scheme, to be finalised in collaboration with school authorities, will reward outstanding students in the first, second and third years, as well as the overall best-performing WASSCE graduate.

The celebration marked six decades of ABORSCO’s commitment to nurturing responsible citizens and equipping students with values and skills relevant to modern society. Participants described the school as a beacon of hope and excellence whose legacy continues to inspire generations.

The anniversary forms part of renewed efforts by stakeholders to sustain the institution’s tradition of academic excellence while positioning it to meet the demands of 21st-century education.
