Eastern Regional Secretary aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Comrade Abass Fuseini, has criticised what he describes as the increasing inaccessibility of some government appointees, warning that the situation risks weakening public confidence in leadership and governance.

In a statement titled “The New Science of Unreachable Government Appointees,” Fuseini argued that engaging certain public officials has become increasingly difficult, with citizens often struggling to have their concerns addressed despite repeated attempts to reach them.

According to him, appointees frequently attribute their unavailability to official commitments such as meetings, workshops, stakeholder consultations, and travel, creating the impression of detachment from the people they were appointed to serve.

“Chasing a government appointee has become a full-time research project,” he remarked, stressing that public office must remain grounded in service and accessibility.

Fuseini also took issue with what he described as an expanding chain of intermediaries between officeholders and the public, where communication is often redirected through personal assistants and administrative layers.

He cautioned that such arrangements risk replacing direct accountability with bureaucracy, making it difficult for citizens to engage meaningfully with decision-makers.

The NDC activist urged political office holders to remain accessible and connected to grassroots concerns, emphasising that public appointments are rooted in service to the people rather than administrative insulation.

He maintained that improving responsiveness would strengthen democratic participation, restore trust in governance, and reinforce the principle of servant leadership.

Fuseini’s comments add to the broader national conversation on transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement, as stakeholders continue to advocate reforms that promote open and people-centred governance.
