A Plus confesses to taking bribe from Zoomlion boss to kill anti-waste campaign

Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has openly confessed to receiving money from Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, the Chief Executive of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, to end his public campaign for the decentralization of waste management in Ghana.

Speaking on Channel 1 TV, A Plus revealed that the campaign was not initially motivated by policy concerns, but rather as a response to what he described as a personal attack by Paul Adom Otchere on national television.

According to A Plus, Adom Otchere’s criticism prompted him to go after his employer Dr. Agyepong, owner of Metro TV and Zoomlion.

“I didn’t respond directly. Instead, I launched a campaign on social media, ‘Waste Management Must Be Decentralised,’ targeting Zoomlion. Eventually, Zoomlion’s CEO reached out through multiple channels and finally met me in person,” he said.

He admitted that the meeting resulted in him being paid a significant amount of money, leading to the quiet end of the campaign.

“Everyone was calling me to speak to Zoomlion. I eventually met with his boss, and after that, I stopped the campaign. That’s because he paid me,” A Plus revealed.

His admission has stirred controversy, raising questions about media ethics, political activism, and the influence of corporate power in shaping public discourse.
