Social media user by name Augusto d’Almeida has outlined some very important reasons why he thinks the 24hour Economy policy implementation by the President Mahama-led NDC government should exclude the road construction sector.
Augusto d’Almeida was responding to a post by Kofi Bentil who is advocating that “The easiest place to start the 24 hr economy is the [road] construction sector” adding “The stress on our roads is too much.”
The easiest place to start the 24 hr economy is the construction sector.
Please make the road contractors use 3 shifts and work 24 hrs.
The stress on our roads is too much.
But in a quick response, Augusto disagrees citing some key challenges and safety concerns.
According to him, impalement the three swift system on our road construction sites will bring serious visibility, worker fatigue, high cost, noise challenges and impaired drivers on the roads.

Challenges & Safety Concerns
Visibility: Darkness requires expensive, bright lighting, which can create glare for drivers and workers.
Driver Behavior: Increased risk of impaired (drunk or drowsy) drivers and higher speeds.
Worker Fatigue: Night shifts disrupt sleep patterns, impacting worker alertness and health.
Noise: Loud machinery can disturb nearby residents.
Cost: Higher labor costs (shift differentials) and increased expenses for specialized lighting.
The 24hour economy is one of the President Mahama’s flagship policies that create an enabling environment for both public and the private sector to run a three shift system.
This according to the President will increase employment opportunities and bring efficiency hence impacting positively on the Ghanaian economy.
