11 killed, scores injured in ghastly road crash in Suhum

At least eleven people have been killed, and several others injured, in an accident at Amanase near Suhum on the Kumasi-Accra highway.

The sad incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, affecting traffic and causing panic among commuters.

The tragic incident involved a fuel tanker with registration number GR 1300-16 and a Benz Sprinter bus registered GW 6510-23.

Police preliminary investigations indicate that the fuel tanker’s driver, who was allegedly dozing off, strayed out of his lane into the path of the approaching Sprinter bus. However, the precise cause of the accident has not yet been established.

Nine adult males and two ladies were instantly killed in the head-on collision. Numerous more suffered potentially fatal wounds.

The report disclosed that numerous victims were returning to Accra after celebrating the Easter holidays in Kwahu.

Emergency services responded swiftly, with personnel working tirelessly to rescue victims and clear the scene.

Several injured individuals have been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, though their conditions remain unknown.

Authorities have launched an investigation and promised to update the public as soon as more details are available.

The public is advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes as officials continue recovery operations and begin a thorough probe into the cause of the crash.

Further updates will be shared as new information emerges.
