A tragic accident on the Cape Coast–Takoradi–Accra highway has left one person dead and four others injured.
The crash occurred around 12:48 p.m. near the University of Cape Coast’s West Gate. It involved a Donfeng tipper truck, a Nissan Sentra, a Honda CR-V, and an Apsonic tricycle.
According to the Cape Coast Police Command, the tipper truck (GN 5710-19) was transporting sand from Bronyibima when the driver lost control and veered off the road. The truck collided with several stationary vehicles, causing major damage.
The Nissan Sentra (CR 1756-12), Honda CR-V (CR 319-20), and the Apsonic tricycle were severely damaged.
Nineteen-year-old Wilfred Awusi Ninson was among those injured. He was rushed to the University of Cape Coast Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police say the four injured victims, including drivers, are receiving treatment and are in stable condition.
The tipper truck driver, 29-year-old Bright Essel, is in police custody and assisting with investigations.
